I Can't Complain...

It’s easier to look out the window and see what’s wrong versus looking in the mirror asking ‘What else can I do?’

Studies show that the average person complains 15 – 30 times a day! So it’s totally normal. Webmd.com says venting our everyday grievances to receptive listeners helps us feel validated and supported.

We gripe about things that are out of our control: weather, traffic, or waiting in line. Other times our points are legit: we feel disrespected, manipulated or victimized. Sometimes I complain about things that happened weeks and even months ago.

But, what do we do when complaining becomes excessive?

The bible says life and death are in the power of the tongue. When our complaining exceeds ‘the norm’…

We should strategize what we verbalize:

  1. What are we grateful for today?

  2. Is my complaint legitimate?

  3. Can I do something about the situation I’m complaining about?

  4. Is it possible to avoid this in the future?

If you’re a constant complainer, it’s a hard habit to break. And it’s contagious.

Alas, all is not lost my fair maiden. I dare you to try the complaint fast. Go 24 hours without complaining no matter what happens.

I’ve done the complaint fast multiple times. Let me tell you, during that 24 hour time frame, everything seems to go wrong. The complaint fast is a wonderful way to reset and get back to gratitude. Try it and send me a note to our secret bat line about your experience.

Helpful stuff right? Tweet it or throw it on Facebook. You’re not the complaint department, so share some tips from your nifty bag of tricks with your gal pals.
